The Derby of the South of France, between Marseille and Nice, was postponed from the 29th round programme, but will be played ten days later than planned. The reason for the initial postponement was Olympique’s commitment in the Europa League tournament. OM lost the first quarter-final to Benfica in Portugal, but in the rematch took advantage of the resulting break and scored the match in a penalty shoot-out, in which they prevailed.

Certainly today’s derby sees both teams in rather poor form and very disappointing results in the new year. With three points Marseille will get closer to the top three, and let’s not forget that the team is the third best home team and for me is the favorite for success today. On their own ground, Olympique have been far better defensively, conceding just nine goals. On the other hand, Nice’s away games have dropped an average of 1.8 goals, and with two consecutive dry nets, the Eagles have once again stabilized the first place in the least goals conceded in Ligue 1. Nice won 1-0 in the first game in the fall, and today I expect the same result, but in favor of the other camp.
