Friday’s French Ligue 1 action features an exciting clash between Monaco and Lyon. The last season was one of the worst in the history of Monaco after the team earned just 36 points. However, ‘The Red and Whites’ avoided relegation and finished in 17th place.
During the summer, Monaco were mainly strengthened in the defensive phase, while Gelson Martins signed a long-term contract after the end of his loan deal. ‘The Red and Whites’ still don’t perform on the needed level. In eight friendly fixtures during the summer, Leonardo Jardim’s players have scored more than one goal only against Cercle Brugge.
Lyon also had problems during their preparation for the new season. The team recorded just one victory in five friendly games, while major players such as Nabil Fekir, Tanguy Ndombele and Ferland Mendy left the club. However, similar outgoing transfers are not something new for ‘The Kids’ and I believe that the team is still one of the favourites in Ligue 1.
Despite the absence of Nabil Fekir, Lyon have still a very dangerous attack with the presence of forwards such as Memphis Depay and Moussa Dembele. Thiago Mendes and Houssem Aouar will help with their creativity and defensive abilities.
Monaco, similarly as Lyon, also have an excellent attack, but the same cannot be said for their defence. ‘The Red and Whites’ may not concede a goal in the last four friendly games, but I expect that they will have problems against the leading sides in France. A bet of ‘BTTS’ was successful in six of the previous eight fixtures between both sides, and I think this tendency will continue.
