1. FC Nürnberg — Last 6 matches
SG Dynamo Dresden — Last 6 matches

1. FC Nürnberg host SG Dynamo Dresden in the 2. Bundesliga on Saturday afternoon, with both clubs arriving at the business end of the season for very different reasons. Nürnberg sit 9th on 37 points, safe enough for now but still eager to finish strongly and maybe climb a little further up the table. Dresden are 16th on 29 points and still looking over their shoulder. That’s the blunt reality. Every point matters far more for Thomas Stamm’s side.

Miroslav Klose’s Nürnberg have been a tricky side to pin down all season, but they’ve done enough at home to give themselves a proper platform. Dresden, though, are the sort of opponents who can drag a match into a scrap. Their league position says as much, even if their goal return suggests they can hurt teams. This is not a free hit for either club. It’s the sort of fixture where a single sloppy spell can change the tone of a season.

There’s also a bit of recent history here. Nürnberg beat Dresden 2-1 in Dresden back in November and, more broadly, they’ve had the edge in this matchup for years. That won’t bother Nürnberg if they control the ball and the tempo, but Dresden have enough about them to make this more awkward than the table might imply.

1. FC Nürnberg Form & Analysis

Nürnberg’s recent run has had a bit of everything. They came out of a nasty home defeat to Fortuna Düsseldorf with questions hanging over them, then steadied themselves with a huge 3-0 win over 1. FC Kaiserslautern. That was a proper response. They followed it by going to Holstein Kiel and leaving with a wild 3-2 win, a result that told you their attack can travel when it’s in the mood. Then came a more cautious 1-1 at Eintracht Braunschweig, where they led, allowed a fightback and still took a point. Before that, there was a narrow away defeat to Hertha BSC and a 1-1 draw at VfL Bochum 1848. In short: they’ve been competitive, but not always clean.

At home, though, Nürnberg have been strong enough to trust. Seven wins, four draws and only three defeats at their own ground is a decent return. They’ve scored 23 and conceded 15 in those home matches, which tells a fairly simple story. They’re not overwhelming opponents, but they’re hard to bully in their own stadium. The balance is decent too. They’ve got enough of a cutting edge to hurt teams and just enough defensive order to stop games getting away from them. That’s usually the sign of a side in the middle third of the table rather than one scrambling to survive.

The main thing with Nürnberg is that they’ve shown different faces in different weeks. Some days they look sharp and aggressive, especially going forward. Other days they let games drift. Still, they’re unbeaten in three now, and that little run matters. They’ve also scored in most of their recent home outings, which is exactly why this fixture has the feel of one where they should get chances. Whether they kill it off is another matter entirely.

SG Dynamo Dresden Form & Analysis

Dresden’s form has been more erratic, and the table reflects that. They were beaten 0-1 at home by Hertha BSC last time out, but that scoreline flatters the visitors and masks a frustrating night for Thomas Stamm’s side. Dresden actually generated good attacking numbers, had five shots on target, and won the expected battle in front of goal. They still lost. That sort of thing can eat away at a team, especially when survival pressure is building.

Before that, they lost 2-1 away to SC Paderborn 07, a match in which they took an early lead and still came away empty-handed. That’s the problem in a nutshell. Dresden can score, can start fast, can get themselves into games, and still fail to see them through. Their 6-0 demolition of Preußen Münster on 15 March was a reminder of what they’re capable of when everything clicks. They also drew 3-3 at Karlsruher SC, beat Darmstadt 98 3-1 at home and drew 0-0 away to Hannover 96. So this isn’t a side short on attacking ideas. It’s a side that hasn’t been able to marry those ideas to control and consistency.

Away from home, Dresden’s record is respectable rather than dominant. Three wins, five draws and six defeats is a middling return, with 20 goals scored and 26 conceded on the road. That’s enough to suggest they can bother teams away from home, but not enough to suggest comfort. They’ve got the fifth-attacking presence of a side that can nick a goal or two, but the defensive side is the issue. They’ve conceded too often, and the recent pattern is even more worrying: they’ve gone three games without a clean sheet. That won’t help here, not against a Nürnberg side that usually finds a way to score at home.

The flip side? Dresden aren’t short of intent. They’ve often gone for games rather than sat back in them. That can make for entertaining football. It also leaves them exposed. If they leave Nürnberg too much space in transition, they’ll pay for it.

Head-to-Head

Nürnberg have had the upper hand in this fixture for a while, and there’s no way around that. They won 2-1 in Dresden in November 2025, and that result fit a broader pattern of control. Nürnberg are unbeaten in seven straight meetings with Dresden, which is a long run in this kind of fixture. Dresden, for their part, haven’t kept a clean sheet against Nürnberg in 12 meetings. That’s not a great omen when you’re already carrying defensive doubts.

The meetings also tend to be tighter than some other fixtures in the division. Five of the last six between them have gone under 2.5 goals. So while both teams have enough attacking threat to score, these games often settle into narrow margins. Nürnberg usually get the first punch in. Dresden then have to chase.

We Predict: Both Teams To Score

We’re backing Both Teams To Score at 8/13 for this one. It feels like the best call on the board. Nürnberg have scored in enough of their recent home matches to trust them to get on the sheet, and Dresden’s season-long profile screams danger at one end and vulnerability at the other. That’s a messy combination, but an honest one. Goals at both ends fits the shape of this game better than trying to force a clean home win.

The 1-1 correct score looks right. Nürnberg’s home record is solid rather than flawless, Dresden keep finding ways to create chances, and both sides come into this with reasons to believe they can nick something. The only real tension is that the head-to-head trend leans a little tighter than the attacking numbers might suggest. Still, the price on BTTS is short for a reason. These are two teams who should share the scoring.

If you wanted a shade more ambition, Nürnberg to avoid defeat in a double chance angle would make sense too. But the cleaner play is both teams scoring, and a draw feels live all the way through.
