Our BTTS Tips identify matches where Both Teams to Score looks statistically likely. We use clear thresholds rather than vague labels like “two attacking teams”. For a match to qualify, both sides must be expected to create 2+ big chances and generate at least 1.2 xG each.
That makes BTTS one of our most data-driven football markets. It is also one of the most popular, because you do not need to pick a winner — you simply need both teams to score during normal time. If you want broader daily picks beyond this market, you can also check our main football tips page and our full football predictions section.

What Does BTTS Mean?
BTTS stands for Both Teams To Score. A BTTS bet wins if both sides score at least once during regular time — 90 minutes plus stoppage time. The exact final score does not matter. A 1-1, 2-1, 3-2, or 5-4 all win a BTTS Yes bet.
The opposite selection is BTTS No. That wins if at least one team fails to score, so results such as 0-0, 1-0, 2-0, or 3-0 all land BTTS No.
If you are new to the market, our guide to what BTTS means in betting breaks it down in more detail. BTTS is also closely linked to over 2.5 goals betting, but the two markets are not the same.
Why BTTS Bets Appeal to Bettors
BTTS is popular because it offers an exciting betting experience without forcing you to choose a match winner. If one side dominates possession or the game turns chaotic late on, you still have a chance as long as both teams score.
- No need to pick a winner: Useful in evenly matched fixtures
- Strong fit for attacking leagues: Especially where both teams regularly create chances
- Live for the full 90 minutes: A last-minute goal can still save the bet
- Good accumulator market: BTTS selections combine well in doubles, trebles, and 4-folds
- Works well with value analysis: Some teams look weak defensively but still carry enough threat to score themselves
It is often strongest in matches involving high-scoring teams, weak defences, or mid-table sides who create and concede chances at similar rates.
Our BTTS Selection Criteria
We do not pick BTTS based on league averages or lazy labels like “two attacking teams”. Our process is stricter than that.
- Both teams expected 2+ big chances – Clear goal-scoring opportunities, not just shot volume
- Both teams expected 1.2+ xG – Chance quality based on shot locations and scoring probability
- Opponent-adjusted data – Results filtered to matches against similar-strength opponents
- Current form and team news – We check whether the attacking threat is still intact
- Price value – A good BTTS angle still has to make sense at the available odds
This is why we are selective. A team with a good overall scoring record may still be a poor BTTS candidate if most of that output came against weak opposition, or if current injuries reduce their attacking quality.
Sample Analysis
Brighton vs Brentford
- Brighton at home vs mid-table: 2.3 big chances created, 1.4 xG average
- Brighton at home vs mid-table: 1.8 big chances conceded
- Brentford away vs top-half: 2.1 big chances created, 1.3 xG average
- Brentford away vs top-half: 2.0 big chances conceded
Both teams meet our thresholds, both carry scoring threat, and both show defensive vulnerability in the relevant matchup profile. That makes it a BTTS candidate.
How to Choose BTTS Bets Properly
The best BTTS bets usually come from fixtures where both teams are strong enough going forward and unreliable enough defensively. We look beyond raw league position and ask:
- Can both teams create chances in this exact matchup?
- Do both teams concede enough quality chances to give the other side a path to goal?
- Are key attackers fit and likely to start?
- Is the match context likely to stay open?
- Do the odds still offer value once all of that is priced in?
That is why match context matters so much. A team may look like a strong BTTS side in general, but become a poor pick if they are missing their main striker, rotating before a bigger fixture, or playing in a more cautious tactical setup than usual.
BTTS Statistics and Data We Use
BTTS predictions improve when you use more than just goals scored and goals conceded. We look at:
- Big chances created and conceded
- Expected goals for and against
- Home and away splits
- Current scoring streaks
- Clean sheet frequency
- Head-to-head records when still relevant
- Recent form against comparable opposition
That gives a much clearer picture than a simple BTTS league table or raw season percentage. For example, one team may have several recent BTTS results, but if those all came against far stronger or weaker sides, the pattern can be misleading.
Best Leagues for BTTS
Some leagues are naturally better suited to both teams to score bets because of their tactical style, defending quality, and average number of clear chances per match.
- Bundesliga: Usually the most reliable for BTTS. German sides commit players forward and many matches stay open.
- Premier League: High pressing and attacking intent from most sides make it a strong BTTS league.
- Eredivisie: Often high-scoring with open, attack-minded football.
- Selected Serie A matches: Better than the old stereotype suggests, especially when both teams play proactively.
Leagues We Avoid for BTTS
- La Liga: More controlled and technical football means many games stay tighter than the raw talent suggests.
- Ligue 1: Team quality can vary sharply, and some fixtures are less open than the headline numbers imply.
League trends help, but they are never enough on their own. A strong league for BTTS still contains plenty of poor individual fixtures.
Daily and Weekend BTTS Tips
Our BTTS tips are updated daily, but the biggest fixture lists usually come at the weekend. Saturday and Sunday often provide the best mix of choice, team news, and league coverage, which is why many of our strongest BTTS selections appear in busy weekend cards.

When We Avoid BTTS
Even if both teams generally score, certain situations still make us skip the bet:
- Key striker injured or suspended
- Team resting players before a bigger match
- Heavy rain or poor pitch conditions
- Very low-tempo tactical setup
- Early kick-off times where the game profile looks flat
- Odds that have shortened too far and no longer offer value
In short, we are not just looking for two teams that can score. We are looking for a match where both teams are still likely to score in the current conditions, at the current price.
BTTS and Over/Under Goals
BTTS often overlaps with the goals markets, but the two are not interchangeable.
- BTTS Yes wins, Over 2.5 loses: 1-1
- BTTS Yes wins, Over 2.5 wins: 2-1 or 2-2
- BTTS loses, Over 2.5 wins: 3-0
- BTTS loses, Under 2.5 wins: 1-0 or 0-0
That is why some matches are better suited to over 2.5 goals tips than BTTS, while others fit both. We also have a dedicated page for BTTS and Win tips if you want a higher-odds combined version of this market.
BTTS in Accumulators and Combination Bets
BTTS selections combine well in accumulators because the odds are usually high enough to build a decent total without needing extreme long shots. A 4-fold BTTS acca at average odds of 1.70 per leg gives combined odds of around 8.35.
That makes BTTS a strong market for:
- BTTS doubles
- BTTS trebles
- 4-fold BTTS accumulators
- Mixed accas combining BTTS with match result or over goals
If accumulators are your main focus, our football accumulator tips, football treble tips, and guide to what an acca bet is are the best next pages to read.
Expert and Tipster Insight
BTTS is one of the markets where expert judgement still matters alongside the numbers. Statistics can show that both teams create and concede enough chances, but the final decision still depends on team news, motivation, match tempo, and whether the current odds represent value.
That is why our BTTS tips are not based on raw percentages alone. They are based on filtered statistics, football context, and the same structured approach we use across our wider football predictions and football tips content.
Free Bets and Promotions
Free bets and special offers can make BTTS betting more attractive, especially when you are using small stakes in multiples. Still, the promotion should never be the main reason to force a weak selection.
Before placing a BTTS bet with an offer, check:

- Qualifying stake
- Eligible bet types
- Promo code or sign-up rules

BTTS FAQ
No. BTTS bets are settled on 90 minutes plus stoppage time only. Goals in extra time or penalties do not count unless the market specifically says otherwise.
BTTS requires both teams to score. Over 2.5 goals only requires three or more total goals. A 3-0 wins Over 2.5 but loses BTTS, while a 1-1 wins BTTS but loses Over 2.5.
Most BTTS selections sit around 1.60 to 1.90, depending on the attacking quality of both teams, defensive weakness, and the overall expected openness of the match.
It can work well as either. Singles are lower variance, while BTTS accumulators create better total odds. The right choice depends on your staking style and appetite for risk.
Sometimes, yes. If one team clearly has the edge but the other still carries a realistic scoring threat, the BTTS and Win market can offer stronger value than BTTS alone.
