Baník Ostrava — Last 6 matches
Bohemians Praha 1905 — Last 6 matches

Baník Ostrava host Bohemians Praha 1905 in the Czech First League on Saturday afternoon, 18 April 2026, with both sides still chasing a cleaner finish to a messy campaign. Baník are 15th on 22 points and looking over their shoulder, while Bohemians sit 12th on 30 points and have a bit more breathing room. Neither side is safe. Neither side can afford to coast.

That alone gives this one plenty of edge. Baník need points to drag themselves away from the lower reaches, but Bohemians know a win would push them further clear and ease any late-season nerves. There’s also the sense that this fixture should produce chances. These two have been open enough at the back all season, and both managers — Ondrej Smetana and Jaroslav Vesely — will know that one ugly spell can quickly turn a routine league afternoon into a scrap.

The recent league picture adds another layer. Baník have lost three of their last four in the league and were hammered 4-1 at FK Jablonec last time out. Bohemians, by contrast, bounced back from a run of defeats with a 2-1 home win over FC Zlín. That was a useful response. Still, neither side has been remotely convincing across the season, and this feels like a game where momentum can swing early and then keep swinging.

Baník Ostrava Form & Analysis

Baník’s latest run has been rough to watch. They went away to FK Jablonec on 11 April and were beaten 4-1, a scoreline that flattered neither side. Before that came a 0-2 home loss to SK Slavia Praha, a result you can almost file under expected, but the performance pattern was familiar — Baník were chasing the game, losing control, and leaving too much space behind them. Go back a little further and it gets no prettier: a 1-0 league defeat away to FC Hradec Králové, sandwiched around the one convincing moment in their recent spell, the 6-2 home demolition of FC Zlín on 8 March.

That Zlín win is the obvious outlier. Baník tore them apart that day and showed they can hurt teams when the tempo is right and the finishing is sharp. But it’s been more than a month since that result, and the follow-up has been underwhelming. A 0-0 cup draw at Hradec gave them a brief reset, but in the league they’ve since been brushed aside by Sparta and Slavia types of opponents, and Jablonec too. Three league defeats on the spin is a poor look. They’re not just losing — they’re usually conceding first and then chasing shadows.

At home, Baník’s numbers are a bit less alarming, which is probably the only reason they aren’t buried lower down. Their home record stands at four wins, two draws and seven defeats, with 16 scored and 19 conceded. That’s not disastrous, but it isn’t the profile of a team you’d trust to shut a match down. They’ve scored at a decent rate at their own ground, yet the defensive return has too often let them down. When Baník go forward, they can ask questions. When they have to protect a lead, the whole structure can wobble. You can see why matches involving them keep opening up.

One thing does stand out: they’re not short of goals in the right kind of game. They scored six against Zlín, two away at Sparta, and even in defeat they found the net at Jablonec. That tells you they’ve got enough attacking threat to play their part in a high-scoring contest. The flip side is obvious. Their back line is rarely getting through 90 minutes without being tested hard, and that’s a problem against a Bohemians side that’s happy to attack space rather than sit around waiting.

Bohemians Praha 1905 Form & Analysis

Bohemians arrive with slightly steadier recent form, even if they’re still far from polished. Their most recent outing was a 2-1 home win over FC Zlín on 11 April, and it was the sort of result they desperately needed after a difficult few weeks. They had gone to FC Hradec Králové and lost 2-0, travelled to Viktoria Plzeň and lost 2-0 again, then drawn 0-0 with Slovan Liberec at home. Before that came a narrow 1-0 loss at Sigma Olomouc and a 1-0 home win over Dukla Praha. That’s a mixed bag. Not terrible, but not convincing either.

The good news for Jaroslav Vesely’s side is that they’ve shown they can win tight games when the chance comes. They did it against Dukla, and they did it again against Zlín after making enough of their moments count. The bad news is that away from home, they’ve tended to go quiet for long spells. The losses at Hradec, Plzeň and Sigma all had a similar feel: Bohemians hanging in there for a while, then losing control and failing to create enough to turn the match their way. That won’t frighten Baník on its own, but it does stop Bohemians from looking like a side with complete control of their fate.

Their away record is respectable enough on paper: four wins, three draws and seven defeats, with 12 goals scored and 19 conceded. That is the profile of a mid-table team that can compete but too often lacks bite on the road. Twelve away goals is a modest return. Still, they’ve been competitive enough to avoid getting rolled over in every trip, and that matters here because Baník have not exactly been a model of consistency. If Bohemians can keep the game alive into the second half, they’ll like their chances of finding something.

What does make Bohemians interesting for this fixture is the balance of their recent matches. The 2-1 win over Zlín was played at a decent pace, with 21 shots and four big chances, and that attacking intent has been there in flashes throughout the season. They don’t need a lot of possession to make things happen, and they’re more than capable of turning a loose game into a mess. That suits them. A slow, careful, low-event afternoon would probably favour neither side, but Bohemians have shown enough to suggest they won’t be shy about pushing forward if Baník leave gaps.

Head-to-Head

This fixture has produced a few tight contests, and the recent pattern isn’t especially generous to Baník. Bohemians won the reverse meeting 1-0 in Prague on 19 July 2025, and they also beat Baník 2-1 at home in July 2024. Baník did edge the corresponding home game 1-0 in April 2025, so there’s no one-way narrative here, but the margins have generally been thin.

The broader trend leans toward caution in the scoreline, even if both clubs have the sort of defensive records that can turn careful football into chaos. Four of the last five league meetings have finished under 2.5 goals, which is worth keeping in mind. That said, this current version of both teams looks more fragile than fierce. One mistake and the whole thing can open up fast.

We Predict: Over 2.5 Goals

We’re backing Over 2.5 Goals at 8/11 for this one. The price feels fair. Baník have been involved in a string of open games, they’ve just shipped four at Jablonec, and their home record shows a side that can score but rarely keeps things neat at the back. Bohemians aren’t exactly locked down either. They’ve lost 19 away goals already and their best route here is probably to attack rather than sit on their hands.

The xG projection leans the same way, with Baník at 1.7 and Bohemians at 1.4, which points to a match with enough chances at both ends. A 2-1 Baník win fits the mood best. If you want a little extra interest, Both Teams To Score also has a decent case, but Over 2.5 is the cleaner angle. This doesn’t look like a cagey one. It looks like one mistake too many, then a scramble to keep up.
