Match form loads a moment after the page opens so the main prediction can appear first; recent results are fetched right after.
Coventry are first in the table and their home record is the clearest reason to side with them here. They have taken 45 points from 19 home league matches, winning 14 of them, and their goal difference at home is 40 scored and only 15 conceded. Recent form is strong as well, with five wins from their last six Championship matches, the only setback being the 2-1 home defeat to Southampton on 14 March.
Derby are not an easy opponent, which is the main caution around a straight home win. They sit eighth overall and fifth in the away table, with nine wins from 19 away league games, so this is not a side that travels poorly. Their recent league form is also solid, with four wins and two losses from the last six, including away victories at Portsmouth and Hull, so Coventry are being asked to beat a team that has shown it can take results on the road.
The latest Coventry performance still strengthens the home-win case. On 21 March they won 3-0 away at Swansea, scoring through Brandon Thomas-Asante, Matt Grimes and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, and they created enough at the sharp end to justify a comfortable result with four big chances and seven shots on target. Coventry have also scored first in four of their last five league matches, a useful angle for a match-result bet because getting in front has so often put them on course for three points.
There is a little tension in the price because the projections are not one-sided: the expected goals lean Coventry's way at 1.7 to 1.0 and the correct-score call is only 2-1. Derby also arrive after a controlled 1-0 win over Birmingham on 21 March, allowing just 0.2 xGA, so Coventry may need to work for this rather than cruise.
My prediction is Home Win at 1.53. Coventry have won 14 of 19 home league matches, they are top of the Championship with 24 wins overall, and they come into Friday evening with five victories from their last six games. Derby's away record is respectable, but Coventry already beat them 5-3 in the reverse meeting and still hold the stronger result profile for the match-result market.
