Hannover 96 — Last 6 matches
SC Paderborn 07 — Last 6 matches

Hannover 96 and SC Paderborn 07 meet on Saturday evening in the 2. Bundesliga with genuine promotion pressure hanging over both clubs. Hannover sit fourth on 53 points, just behind the top two pace, while Paderborn are second with 57. That gap is small enough to matter and big enough to sharpen the edge. A win for either side would be a serious statement at this stage of the season.

Christian Titz’s Hannover have spent much of the campaign looking like a side with enough quality to force their way into the picture, but not quite enough consistency to coast there. Ralf Kettemann’s Paderborn arrive with a little more momentum and a better league position, and they’ve also been the more explosive team in recent weeks. There’s no title talk here yet. There is, though, a real battle for automatic promotion and a lot on the line in every duel, every second ball, every set piece.

The story of the season points to a tight, lively contest. Hannover’s home record is solid rather than dominant, Paderborn’s away numbers are strong, and both sides have been scoring freely enough to keep the goals market very much in play. This one should have bite. And probably goals.

Hannover 96 Form & Analysis

Hannover come into this off a tidy 2-0 away win at Darmstadt 98 on 11 April, a result that gave their promotion push another lift and extended a decent little run. Before that, they were held 1-1 at home by SV 07 Elversberg, edged Eintracht Braunschweig 1-0 in Hannover, and drew 2-2 at FC Schalke 04. That’s the shape of them right now: hard to beat, competitive everywhere, but not always able to shut games down once they’ve opened up. The one blot in the recent sequence was the 1-2 home loss to Greuther Fürth. That defeat was frustrating because Hannover had been looking settled at home. It was a reminder that they’re not untouchable.

The numbers at the HDI-Arena are respectable. Hannover have won seven, drawn three and lost four at home, scoring 20 and conceding 16. That’s a decent platform, not a fortress. They’ve tended to do enough to stay in games, but there’s no sense of total control. Still, they’ve now gone four league matches unbeaten overall since that loss to Fürth, and the momentum matters with the table as tight as it is. Christian Titz will take the consistency, but he’ll want a sharper edge in the final third if they’re going to take down one of the division’s top sides.

There is a clear pattern in Hannover’s season: they can carry a threat, but they rarely win in a dull way. Their league totals — 49 scored and 35 conceded — point to a team that usually lands somewhere around the action. At home they’ve been a touch less open than the overall numbers suggest, yet they’ve still conceded in enough matches to keep opponents interested. Against a Paderborn side that’s been scoring with confidence, that should matter. Hannover can win this. They’re good enough. But they’ll need to take chances when they come, because they’re unlikely to keep the visitors quiet for 90 minutes.

SC Paderborn 07 Form & Analysis

Paderborn arrive in fine heart. Their last six league matches read like a side that’s found its rhythm, even if it hasn’t always been neat. They beat 1. FC Magdeburg 4-3 at home on 12 April in a wild match that swung all over the place, then went to Greuther Fürth and won 2-0, which was the more controlled performance of the two. Before that came a 2-1 home win over Dynamo Dresden, followed by a 2-2 draw at Arminia Bielefeld and a 1-1 home draw with Eintracht Braunschweig. Go back one more game and they’d beaten Kaiserslautern 2-1 away. That’s nine league matches unbeaten now. Not bad at all.

Kettemann’s side have the look of a team that don’t panic when the tempo rises. They’ve scored 51 league goals and conceded 34, which is a strong profile for a side sitting second. Away from home, they’ve been excellent without being reckless: seven wins, four draws and only three defeats, with 20 goals scored and 12 conceded. Those are promotion-grade numbers. They’re the kind of figures that keep you in the top two when the spring pressure starts to bite. And yes, they’ve been productive on the road. They don’t go into away matches hoping to survive them. They go looking to win.

The Magdeburg match summed them up perfectly. Paderborn led, got dragged into a shootout, and still found enough cutting edge to come out on top. Filip Bilbija was at the heart of it with four goals, while the whole game had that slightly breathless feel that often follows this team around. They can be too open at times. That’s the flip side. Yet it’s hard to argue with a side that keeps finding ways through. Their away record suggests they won’t be overawed in Hannover, and their recent scoring run tells you they’ll back themselves to get on the board again.

Head-to-Head

These two know each other well, and the recent meetings have usually had a competitive edge. Hannover beat Paderborn 2-0 in the reverse league fixture on 22 November 2025, which stands out as a strong away result against a direct rival. Before that, Paderborn had edged a few encounters, including a 2-1 league win in September 2024 and a 1-0 victory in December 2023. Hannover also won 3-2 in May 2024, so there’s no pattern of one side simply owning the other.

The more useful angle is that this pairing has tended to produce goals. Five of the last seven meetings have seen both teams score, and that fits the way these sides are playing now. One clean sheet last time out for Hannover doesn’t change much. Paderborn’s attacking confidence and Hannover’s home scoring record suggest this one could open up pretty quickly if someone lands the first blow.

We Predict: Over 2.5 Goals

We’re backing Over 2.5 Goals at 4/7 here. It’s the cleanest angle on the card. Hannover have been involved in plenty of competitive, open games at home, while Paderborn arrive with a nine-match unbeaten run and a habit of turning matches into something lively. Their away numbers are strong, their scoring form is steady, and the reverse fixture already showed Hannover can hurt them too. This doesn’t look like a match for caution.

The projected scoreline is 2-1 to Hannover, which fits the slight edge Titz’s side have on home soil and the way they’ve been picking up results without always dominating. Paderborn will score — you’d expect them to — but Hannover’s home edge and the league table balance make a narrow home win a fair call. If you want a more conservative angle, Both Teams to Score is very live as well. But the main play is goals. A tight, fast-moving game should give us enough chances to clear the line.
