IK Sirius — Last 6 matches
Västerås SK — Last 6 matches

IK Sirius host Västerås SK in Allsvenskan on Saturday afternoon, 18 April 2026, and both sides arrive with early momentum to protect. Sirius are flying near the top of the table after two straight league wins and haven’t lost for a long time in competitive football. Västerås, by contrast, have steadied themselves after a mixed start and sit in the middle pack, with a point at home to IF Elfsborg followed by a useful away win at Kalmar FF reminding everyone they’re not here to make up the numbers.

There’s a bit of early-season pressure on both clubs, even if it’s only April. Sirius want to turn a neat opening into something that looks like a proper push up the Allsvenskan table. Västerås need to keep banking points before the table starts to stretch. That’s the reality in a league like this: get away from the chasing pack early and life gets easier. Slip behind, and suddenly every Friday or Saturday feels heavier.

The other layer here is the style of game this fixture tends to produce. The recent meetings have had goals, and both teams have started this season with enough attacking intent to suggest we won’t get a cagey, risk-free afternoon. Sirius have been scoring freely at home and Västerås have already shown they’re capable of nicking one away. This doesn’t look like a 0-0. Not even close.

IK Sirius Form & Analysis

IK Sirius have begun the season with a real sense of control. Their last two league matches have both ended in wins, and both carried a different flavour. They were sharp and ruthless enough to beat Hammarby IF 2-0 at home on 13 April, then travelled to Degerfors IF on 4 April and came away with a 3-0 win that looked comfortable from the outside and probably felt even better inside the camp. Before that, their cup run had already laid down a marker: a 2-2 draw away to Hammarby, a goalless tie with IFK Göteborg, a 2-1 win at IF Elfsborg and a 4-1 home win over Helsingborgs IF. That’s a run built on resilience and punch. No fluff, no panic.

The clean sheet against Hammarby was especially telling. Sirius weren’t necessarily dominant in every phase — the xG was only 0.96 to 1.41 and they actually faced more shots than they produced — but they were ruthless in the moments that mattered. Isak Bjerkebo struck early on 9 minutes, Robbie Ure added the second in the 70th, and the game never really drifted away from them. That’s a useful habit. Good sides don’t need 20 chances. They need composure when the openings arrive.

At home, Sirius have made a bright start too. Their league record at their own ground is one win from one, with two goals scored and none conceded. It’s a small sample, of course, but it fits the broader picture: they’re hard to shake when they get in front, and they’ve already shown they can turn a decent spell into a convincing result. The unbeaten run is now well into double figures across competitive matches. That matters. It means opponents don’t get a sniff of an easy game against them.

There is still a slight caveat, and it’s not a minor one. Sirius aren’t always the sort of side that smother you for 90 minutes. They can give the opponent a route back into the match, especially if the press isn’t timed well or if the midfield space opens up. Against Hammarby, the shot count told that story. Still, they’ve looked too composed at both ends of the pitch to be dismissed. Andreas Engelmark’s team have found a nice balance between flair and control, and right now they’re the more polished outfit.

Västerås SK Form & Analysis

Västerås SK’s start has been more uneven, but there’s enough there to keep this interesting. Their most recent league outing was a lively 2-2 draw with IF Elfsborg on 11 April, a game they nearly lost control of before finding a late response. Niklas Hult opened the scoring after the break, Mikkel Ladefoged then struck twice, and Ari Sigurpálsson rescued a point deep into stoppage time. That’s not the sign of a side rolling over. If anything, it showed a bit of backbone. They were second-best in stretches, yet they kept going.

Before that, they went away to Kalmar FF and won 1-0 on 5 April, which was a very decent result and the kind that can stabilise a league campaign. The flip side? Their cup results have been shaky, with a 1-0 home loss to IK Oddevold and a 4-1 defeat away to BK Häcken in the group stage. Those matches hinted at a team that can be exposed when forced to chase or when the opposition turns the screw. They’ve also had to work hard for clean sheets, which isn’t usually a brilliant sign when a trip to one of the league’s sharper attacking sides is next on the calendar.

Away from home, Västerås have at least shown they can get a result. Their league away record stands at one win from one, with one goal scored and none conceded. That’s tidy enough, though it comes from a very small sample and doesn’t tell you much about their ceiling. The deeper issue is whether they can reproduce the discipline they showed at Kalmar when the game gets quicker and the margins narrow. Can they keep it up on the road? That’s the big question here.

Alexander Rubin’s side don’t look blunt, but they don’t yet look fully trustworthy either. They’ve scored three league goals in two matches, which is healthy enough, and the late equaliser against Elfsborg showed they’ve got some fight in the group. Still, the defensive record is less convincing once you move beyond the table line and into performance detail. Elfsborg generated enough to ask serious questions, and Västerås were hanging on at times. Against Sirius, who’ve started the season with real confidence, that’s a dangerous habit.

Head-to-Head

There’s a decent amount of history between these two, and it leans towards goals rather than caution. The most recent meeting was a friendly in September 2025, when Västerås won 5-1, which is obviously the outlier in this series but still worth remembering. In league football, Sirius beat Västerås 2-1 at Västerås in August 2024, after the sides had played out a 0-0 draw in Uppsala earlier that year.

Go a little further back and the pattern becomes even looser, with plenty of scorelines that weren’t afraid to open up. Seven of the last seven competitive and friendly meetings have given both teams a chance to hurt the other, and six of the last seven have gone over 2.5 goals. That doesn’t guarantee another high-scoring game, but it’s a strong nudge. These sides have rarely been content with a sterile contest when they meet.

We Predict: Over 2.5 Goals

We’re backing Over 2.5 Goals at 8/11 here, and it feels like the cleanest angle on the board. Sirius are in sharp early-season form, Västerås have already been pulled into a couple of open games, and the head-to-head record has leaned towards goals too. There’s enough evidence on all three fronts. This doesn’t scream a sit-back-and-protect-your-point sort of fixture.

Sirius’ home record is a neat two goals for and none against, which sounds tidy, but the broader picture is more attacking than that. They’ve scored in bursts all spring, and Västerås have just come through a 2-2 draw with Elfsborg where they needed late goals to save themselves. Add in the xG projection — 1.7 for Sirius and 1.1 for Västerås — and a 2-1 home win starts to look like the natural outcome. One goal for the visitors feels likely. Two isn’t out of the question either. If you want a slightly safer alternative, both teams to score has plenty going for it as well.
