Punjab FC — Last 6 matches
Mohammedan SC — Last 6 matches

Punjab FC come into this home fixture with four matches unbeaten in the league, including a 3-1 away win over Kerala Blasters on 21 March and draws against FC Goa and NorthEast United. Their season numbers are steady rather than explosive, with seven goals scored and four conceded overall, but they have still found a way to contribute in most games. At home, they have drawn both league matches 1-1, so the cleanest read is not on a runaway scoreline, but on a game that should still clear the low goals line.

Mohammedan SC are the opposite profile, and it is hard to ignore how often their matches have opened up at the wrong end. They have lost all five league games, shipped 17 goals, and conceded at least once in every away league outing, with 13 goals allowed in three away matches. The 0-7 defeat to East Bengal on 23 March was especially severe, and even before that they had already been beaten by margins of one, two and four. That kind of away resistance points toward Punjab doing enough on their own to push the total beyond a modest line.

The head-to-head also leans the same way. Punjab have not lost any of the last nine meetings with Mohammedan SC, and six of the last eight have gone over 2.5 goals. There is a slight tension with Punjab’s own home record, which has been more controlled, but Mohammedan’s habit of conceding early and often keeps the scoring floor fairly high. Even a compact 2-0 or 2-1 type of game would be enough to land a low goals threshold.

Punjab’s recent attacking output adds more comfort to the over. They scored three away at Kerala Blasters, created 1.3 xG in that match, and their overall home and league figures are higher than Mohammedan’s defensive baseline. Mohammedan, for their part, have been beaten in their first half in eight straight league matches, which usually leaves them chasing and exposes the game to a second goal before full time. With Punjab likely to control the balance of play, the main risk is only that the hosts are efficient rather than relentless.

My prediction is Over 1.5 Goals at 1/7. Punjab have scored in four of their last five league games, Mohammedan have conceded in every league outing this season, and the away side have already allowed 13 goals in three away matches. The head-to-head has also produced over 2.5 goals in six of the last eight meetings, so a line of 1.5 is well within reach even if Punjab keep the score relatively measured.
