AS Monaco — Last 6 matches
Auxerre — Last 6 matches

AS Monaco welcome Auxerre to the Stade Louis-II on Sunday afternoon in Ligue 1, and the stakes are very different for each side. Monaco are still chasing a push up the table and need points to stay in touch with the European places, while Auxerre are trying to drag themselves clear of danger at the wrong end of the division. One club arrives with ambitions, the other with worries. That usually makes for a sharp contrast.

Sébastien Pocognoli’s side sit 7th with 49 points, and their home record is strong enough to keep them in the conversation. They’ve taken 31 points from 15 matches at the Stade Louis-II and scored 31 goals there, which is the sort of return that tells you they’re far more comfortable in front of their own crowd. Auxerre, by contrast, are 16th on 24 points and have only collected eight on the road all season. One away win. That’s grim reading.

There’s also a familiar pattern in this fixture. Monaco have dominated the recent meetings, but Auxerre have usually found a way to land a punch of their own. That gives this one a live, slightly tense feel despite the gap in the table. Monaco should have the edge. Still, they rarely get to coast against Auxerre.

AS Monaco Form & Analysis

Monaco’s recent run has been a bit of a rollercoaster, but the overall shape is still positive. They were beaten 4-1 away at Paris FC on 10 April, and that result will sting because it exposed a side that was too open when the game turned chaotic. Before that, though, they had put together three straight wins that looked more like a team in control: a 2-1 home victory over Marseille on 5 April, a 2-1 win away at Lyon on 22 March, and a steady 2-0 home success against Brest on 14 March. That’s the key point here. Monaco haven’t been flawless, but they’ve been winning far more often than not.

The broader season picture at home is decent too. Ten wins, one draw and four defeats at the Stade Louis-II is a proper home base, and 31 goals scored there is a healthy return. They’ve also conceded 20 at home, so this isn’t some impenetrable fortress. Far from it. You can get at them, especially if you’re brave enough to play through the lines and keep Monaco’s attacking players honest. But when they click, they score. That’s the problem for opponents.

The numbers from the Paris FC defeat are a reminder of Monaco’s double-edged nature. They still managed 19 shots and were involved in a game with lots of chances at both ends, but their defensive structure collapsed and they allowed 2.61 xGA. On another day, their own attacking output would have kept them in it. On this one, it didn’t. Against Auxerre, the expectation is different. Pocognoli’s side should spend long spells on the front foot, and with the home crowd behind them, you’d expect Monaco to generate enough pressure to turn possession into goals. The only question is whether they keep the door shut at the other end. That’s where they’ve been a bit leaky.

Auxerre Form & Analysis

Auxerre arrive on the back of four games without defeat, but that doesn’t quite tell the full story. Their last six have been a mix of frustration and resilience: a goalless draw at home to Nantes on 11 April, a 1-1 draw away at Le Havre on 5 April, a superb 3-0 home win over Brest on 21 March, a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Marseille on 13 March, a 0-0 draw at home to Strasbourg on 7 March, and a 2-2 draw away at Lorient on 1 March. There’s some bite in there. There’s also a lot of parity. They’re hard to beat, but they’re also hard to trust.

Away from home, the record is exactly why they’re down near the bottom. One win, five draws and eight defeats from 14 away matches is simply not enough. They’ve scored only 10 goals on their travels and conceded 22, which tells you they struggle to impose themselves and often end up hanging on. That’s a poor profile for a trip to Monaco, where the hosts usually spend long spells pinning teams back. Auxerre can stay organised for stretches, but once they fall behind, the comeback plan isn’t exactly loaded with firepower.

Their recent goalless draw with Nantes had the feel of a game where they never really found top gear. Auxerre produced just 0.66 xG, didn’t hit the target once, and spent too much of the afternoon reacting rather than dictating. The clean sheet was welcome, but they can’t keep expecting that level of resistance to rescue them. Christophe Pélissier’s side have enough discipline to stay in games, and they’ve been tough enough to avoid complete collapse lately. Yet the lack of cutting edge away from home is glaring. Can they turn that around in Monaco? It’s a big ask.

Head-to-Head

Monaco have owned this fixture in the recent past. The last meeting ended 2-1 to Monaco in Auxerre in the Coupe de France on 21 December 2025, and earlier that season they also won 2-1 away in Ligue 1 on 13 September 2025. Go back a little further and the pattern stays the same: Monaco beat Auxerre 4-2 at home in February 2025, 3-0 away in September 2024, and there were more high-scoring Monaco wins in 2023 and beyond.

There’s one clear thread here. Monaco usually get to their goals against Auxerre. Five of the last six meetings have seen both teams score, and those games have tended to open up rather than settle into a grind. Auxerre can make life awkward, but they don’t often stop Monaco from finding the net. That’s the history. It’s not subtle.

We Predict: Home Win

We’re backing AS Monaco to win at 8/15 here, and that price feels fair enough for a side with a strong home record against an opponent who’s been poor on the road. Monaco have won 10 of 15 league matches at the Stade Louis-II, while Auxerre have managed just one away victory all season. That gap matters. A lot. Monaco also tend to start fast against this opponent, and they’ve taken the lead in several of the recent meetings, which puts early pressure on Auxerre’s already shaky away setup.

The slightly awkward part is that Monaco don’t keep many clean sheets, so a 2-1 scoreline feels the right call rather than anything more comfortable. Auxerre have enough organisation to nick a goal, especially if Monaco get stretched again, but the home side should still have too much quality in the final third. If you want a side angle, both teams to score has a live case given the history between these sides. Still, the straight home win is the clearest call.
