Real Sociedad B U21 — Last 6 matches
Real Racing Club — Last 6 matches

Real Sociedad B welcome leaders Real Racing Club to the Reale Arena on Friday night with the stakes very different at either end of the table. Jon Ansotegi’s young side go into the weekend 16th in LaLiga 2 on 41 points, still looking over their shoulder after a rough spell that has dragged them back toward the bottom cluster. Racing, by contrast, arrive top of the division on 65 points, chasing promotion and knowing every away trip from here carries extra weight.

That contrast is what gives this game its edge. Sociedad B need points because one win cushion over danger never feels safe in this league, especially when goals have dried up. Racing need them because first place is there to be defended, not admired. José Alberto López’s side have been brilliant going forward all season, loose at the back far too often, and that combination tends to produce chaos. Friday night could get lively.

There’s also a neat stylistic tension here. Sociedad B’s recent results look grim on paper, yet their latest display at AD Ceuta wasn’t the performance of a team being completely overrun. Racing, on the other hand, just hammered Almería 5-1 with a wave of chances and attacking thrust. One side is scrapping for stability. The other is playing with the swagger of a promotion contender, but not the control of one.

Real Sociedad B U21 Form & Analysis

The raw form line is ugly. Five games without a win, four defeats in that run, and three straight league matches without scoring before the 0-0 draw away at Ceuta. That tells its own story. Still, if you watched the sequence rather than just reading the scores, there’s a bit more to it. Sociedad B lost 2-0 at Córdoba on 15 March despite being the winners in the supplied result log, then fell 2-0 at home to Granada and were swept aside 5-1 by Almería away from home. That was the bad one — open, vulnerable, and punished. After that came narrower defeats, 1-0 at home to Eibar and 1-0 away at Sporting Gijón, before last week’s goalless draw at Ceuta.

That Ceuta match matters. Sociedad B created enough to win it. Their xG was 1.64 against just 0.52 conceded, they posted 16 shots, and they produced three big chances. They just didn’t take one. That’s been the issue recently in a nutshell: the approach play isn’t always dreadful, but the end product has deserted them. Three goals? No. That’s the problem. They’ve now gone three matches without scoring and haven’t won since beating Córdoba on the road a month ago.

At home, their record is solid enough to offer some hope. Seven wins, five draws and five defeats at their own ground is hardly dominant, but it’s respectable for a side sitting 16th. They’ve scored 25 and conceded 21 in those 17 home league matches, which points to a team more balanced in San Sebastián than their overall record suggests. They tend to be competitive there. You don’t rack up that home split by folding every time a big side visits.

The bigger concern is defensive rhythm and game state. Sociedad B have conceded 50 league goals overall, and a recurring pattern has been falling behind and then chasing the game. Once that happens, their matches open up in a hurry. The flip side? Racing aren’t exactly built to shut games down, and the xG projection here — 1.75 for the home side — says Sociedad B should get opportunities. If they create anything like they did at Ceuta, you’d expect them to score this time.

Real Racing Club Form & Analysis

Racing’s last six matches have been all action, very little calm. They beat Cultural Leonesa 2-1 away on 14 March, then were thrashed 4-0 at home by Albacete Balompié in a result that came out of nowhere. They responded well enough with a 2-0 win at Real Zaragoza and a 3-1 home victory over Sporting Gijón, only to implode again in a wild 6-2 loss at FC Andorra. Then came Sunday’s statement win: 5-1 at home to Almería, top-end attacking football, relentless pressure, and an xG of 3.98. When Racing click, they really click.

That win over Almería was a proper attacking showcase. Adrián Embarba opened the scoring, Andrés Martín and Iñigo Vicente added more before the break, and the goals kept coming late on through Asier Villalibre, Peio Canales and Marco Sangalli. It wasn’t just efficient finishing either. Racing had 26 shots, 13 on target and seven big chances. Almería ended with two red cards, yes, but by then Racing had already imposed themselves. They were sharper, more aggressive, and miles more dangerous.

The problem is obvious. They don’t keep enough clean sheets. Racing have now gone eight matches without one, and that stat fits what we’ve seen all season. They’re top of the table because they’ve scored 72 goals in 35 league games, not because they’ve controlled opponents into submission. Conceding 54 as leaders is a strange look, but it explains why their matches are so often open. Six of their last eight have seen both teams score, and seven of the last eight have gone over 2.5 goals. You can trust them to attack. Trust them to defend? Not really.

Away from home, the numbers are still strong. They are second in the away table with eight wins, three draws and six defeats, scoring 29 and conceding 29 on their travels. That’s the key split. One goal for every goal against. Racing can win anywhere in this division, but they rarely make life simple for themselves on the road. Even when they’re good, they tend to leave the door open. For betting purposes, that matters a lot.

Head-to-Head

The reverse fixture went Racing’s way, a 1-0 home win on 31 October 2025, and that’s the most relevant meeting here. It was tight then and it may not be one-way traffic now either, despite the league gap. Sociedad B have had their moments in this matchup over the years — including a 4-1 home win in January 2021 and a 1-0 away win two months later — so there isn’t much sense in treating this as a fixture Racing automatically dominate.

Still, the current versions of these teams are different. Racing are far stronger in the table and far more dangerous in attack. Sociedad B’s hope lies less in history and more in the fact that Racing’s defence gives almost everyone a chance.

We Predict: Both Teams To Score

Both Teams To Score at 1.50 looks the standout play here. Racing’s defensive record is the giveaway: eight matches without a clean sheet, 29 conceded in 17 away league games, and a style that leans into open contests rather than controlled ones. Sociedad B may be short on confidence, but the latest xG numbers from the Ceuta game suggest they’re still creating enough to hurt vulnerable opponents.

There’s the other half of the bet too. Racing have scored 72 league goals and just put five past Almería from nearly four expected goals. They don’t need many invitations. Sociedad B have conceded 50 this season and were hit for five by Almería only a few weeks ago, so asking them to keep the leaders out for 90 minutes feels optimistic. The projected scoreline of 2-2 fits the shape of the game nicely — Racing should create plenty, but their loose defending gives the hosts a route in.

If you want a side angle, over 2.5 goals has appeal for the same reasons. Still, BTTS is the cleaner route. Racing almost always contribute. This time, Sociedad B should do their part too.
