Shakhtar Donetsk come into this one on the back of five wins in their last six league matches, and their home record in the Premier League is still elite: nine wins, one draw and one defeat, with 30 goals scored and only eight conceded. They have also kept things under control at home in recent league games, beating Metalist 1925 1-0 and Karpaty Lviv 3-0, which fits the profile of a side that usually turns home advantage into points.
Rukh Lviv’s away form points the other way. They have only three away wins all league season and have scored just five goals in 11 away matches, so they often struggle to threaten on the road. Their recent league run is five defeats from six, and even in the home loss to LNZ Cherkasy they generated only 0.5 xG, which is not the sort of output that normally troubles a league leader away from home.
Shakhtar’s overall record is stronger in every key area, with 47 points, a 14-5-1 league mark and a 48-12 goal difference. Rukh sit 14th with 19 points and a 16-32 goal difference, and the gap in attacking quality is clear from the season averages too, with Shakhtar’s home scoring rate comfortably above Rukh’s away output. There is a small note of caution in that Shakhtar have just lost 1-2 to Lech Poznań in Europe, but that came against stronger opposition than they face here.
The head-to-head also leans heavily toward the hosts. Shakhtar have not lost any of the last four meetings with Rukh, and the most recent league clash finished 4-0 to Shakhtar in Lviv. Rukh have gone 13 straight meetings without a clean sheet against them, which is a poor sign when they are already struggling to score away from home.
My prediction is Home Win at 1/10. Shakhtar have won nine of their 11 home league matches, Rukh have just three away wins and only five away goals all season, and the visitors have lost five of their last six league games. Shakhtar’s superiority in points, goal difference and recent head-to-head form all point the same way, even if the projected 2-1 scoreline suggests Rukh may still nick a goal.
