Sporting CP — Last 6 matches
SC Braga — Last 6 matches

Sporting CP come into this one with the stronger league position, sitting second on 28 points, and their home record is solid enough for a win call: three home wins, two draws and only one defeat, with 10 goals scored and five conceded. They have also won four of their last six league matches, which is a better recent return than Braga’s, and they have already shown they can edge tight games at home such as the 1-0 against Marítimo.

SC Braga are not easy opponents, though, because their away record is competitive: four wins, one draw and two defeats, with 16 goals scored on the road. Even so, their recent away results have been less convincing in the bigger picture, and they arrive after two straight draws, including a 0-0 with Rio Ave that underlined their recent difficulty in turning chances into wins.

The head-to-head adds a little caution, because the last five league meetings have produced three draws and only two Sporting wins, so this is not a fixture that usually falls apart early. Still, Sporting have taken the cleaner results in the home meetings, while Braga’s last two league outings both finished level, which leaves them with a slight wobble at the wrong time for an away trip to a top-two side.

There is a small tension with the xG numbers, as Sporting’s 1.6 projection and Braga’s 1.4 suggest a fairly competitive contest rather than a straightforward home stroll. Even so, Sporting’s stronger overall record, their better home balance, and Braga’s winless run of two league matches point toward the hosts having the edge when it matters most.

My prediction is Home Win at 1/2. Sporting have the better league position and a stronger points return overall, they have lost only once at home in the league, and Braga have drawn their last two matches. The recent meeting history is not one-sided, but Sporting’s home record and Braga’s recent inability to turn draws into wins support the home side to finish ahead.
